In addition, we also volunteered at the MSU community organic vegetable garden. We cleaned several bags worth of debris from the sides of the parkway and look forward to being able to continue to keep our portion of the parkway clean. We took part in a cleanup of nearby Perring Parkway, which we have adopted portions of along with our graduate chapter Alpha Omega. Overall, both experiences were tremendous and we look forward to doing more things like this in the future.Īnother manner in which we chose to impact through service was to become a positive impact on the physical community itself. We prepared exercises concerning team building and leadership to get the kids engaged, and discussed the importance of team building and leadership after the completion of these exercises. These programs were for females and males, respectively, ranging in ages from 10 to 15. We also got the opportunity to visit the children who are a part of the SASY and Brother 2 Brother programs on Morgan’s campus. We volunteered the entire day (a total of ten hours) and even stepped for the kids after everything was finished. The conference is for middle and high school students in the Baltimore area and is put together by Morgan State’s social work department. One example of this would be when the chapter participated in a program known as the Y.E.S. One of the demographics we chose to focus on was children in the Baltimore area. This summer, the Alpha Chapter serviced the community in a multitude of different ways. Continue reading → With the 50th anniversary of owr fownding approaching, anticipation for this year’s fownders’ day was at an extreme high. For the brothers of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated, that day is September 19. For students who are a part of fraternities and soroties, however, that list can be extended when you talk abowt founders’/charter days for their respective organizations. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter all spawn well deserved breaks for students as well. Homecoming brings back alumni and becomes the highlight of a college student’s year in the majority of instances. Others may anticipate May due to graduation, finals, and the beginning of summer vacation.
Some anticipate late August due to their excitement to start the school year.
There are several times of the year that college students anticipate tremendously, for different reasons. We even got a guest appearance from Felicia “Snoop” Pearson (most known for her role on acclaimed television series The Wire) at owr table on Friday. Overall, it was a great experience for the chapter to help spread awareness throughowt the campus. In addition to getting a substantial amownt of people to fill owt applications, we also helped to inform those in need of absentee ballots as far as how their vote can be cast from the university.
In order to help ensure that owr fellow students at Morgan were prepared for the election, the chapter hosted voter registration tables three days last week (a total of twelve hours) for students to register to vote in Maryland. Incumbent President Barack Obama is set to face off against Republican candidate Mitt Romney to decide who will be the leader of the country for the next four years. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you should know that the 2012 presidential election is arownd the corner.
